Register of Probate in Cheshire County: Candidates' Questionaire

As you know, we created and host the nhfacts.com blog to provide information and insight into political and governmental issues related to Cheshire County and southwestern New Hampshire. Two local residents are running for the Republican endorsement for Register of Probate in Cheshire County: Susan Castor and Donna Shields.

On August 24, 2008, we asked both candidates to respond to the two questions below.

According to the Cheshire County website:

"The work of the Probate Court centers on protecting individual rights, particularly for some of the state's most vulnerable citizens: children, the elderly, and mentally and physically disabled youth and adults. The Probate Court resolves issues involving families as well as property."

Question 1: What do you feel is the most important quality a Register of Probate must possess?

Question 2: Why should a Cheshire County resident vote for you for this position?

We indicated that we would post their responses, or lack thereof, to this inquiry on this blog. To date, only Susan Castor has responded. Her responses are below:

1. What do you feel is the most important quality a Register of Probate must possess?

I feel conscientiousness is the most important quality a Register of Probate must possess.
Conscientiousness is a quality that reveals itself in everything you do, from individual duties to serving the general public, bar, staff, as well as other courts.

2. Why should a Cheshire County resident vote for you for this position?

I am the most qualified candidate for this position.
As a Court Assistant at the Probate Court for the past ten years, serving as a Deputy Register since 2005, and as a former small business owner (employing up to 17 at one time) I have the skills necessary to manage the office and serve the public in a professional manner.
Also, my continuing education – paralegal certification from KSC – has given me the legal knowledge to enhance my work experience and has provided me with a professional level of understanding of all aspects of the job.
Throughout my service at the Probate Court, my work/attendance record has shown that I am a reliable, diligent employee who welcomes new tasks with enthusiasm. When a person enjoys their work, these qualities come naturally. I take my duties seriously and realize how much the citizens of Cheshire County rely on accurate information they obtain from the Probate Court.
I promise to uphold the high standards that the citizens of Cheshire County expect and deserve.
