The Democrat Commissioners and the Democrat lead delegation are going to spend another 2.1M of our money for their geothermal energy plan. I was wondering what I was going to do with my extra money.
I want to see that site support 90 wells, the phenomenal force of the pump without some type of landside, or disruption to the water supply to surrounding neighbors. Heck, a good rainstorm is enough to set off a mudslide in that area.
This type of energy source leaves many questions unanswered. As the steam from the pump spews across Cheshire County have you given any thought to what will be coming from the ground - metals rings a bell?
Now that the Commissioners and the Democrat delegation are confident they can have whatever they want, there are rumblings moving the nursing home up to the new jail site! Soon they will be able to sit in their new office location, look down on the traffic going by and relish the idea that a full complex has been achieved.
There has been talk about Women's Correctional Facility being set-up at the old jail. What do you think of that ladies; the place is not good enough for the men, but heck, just dandy for the women.
Remember the only power we the taxpayers have is at the polls. Vote no for anyone who has taken part in this boondoggle.
Perhaps frustrated by the failure of their tactics to stop the momentum of The McCain campaign, opponents of Senator John McCain have now turned to vandalism, graffiti, and theft.
Dozens of signs across Cheshire County have been defaced, destroyed, or just plain disappeared. One north side city homeowner has had 4 McCain yard signs stolen from their front yard since July. Another one Sunday night and a replacement again Monday night.
Cheshire County residents saw this behavior in 2006 and prior years. Sadly, it looks like these unlawful actions, endorsed by the County Democrats [since they know it is occurring and simply refuse to publicly ask their supporters to stop it], reflect negatively upon the county community.
Apparently, the Keene and County Democratic Leadership will do just about anything to try to derail a fair election process. This unlawful behavior speaks volumes about their character and class - or lack thereof.
I was out of town the night of the public hearing for the geothermal heating discussion at the Cheshire County Commissioner's meeting, but reading about the meeting, I am dumbfounded. They have yet to put all the details together - and we the citizens of Cheshire County are suppose to roll over and let another $2.1M be placed on the backs of the taxpayers!
At the meeting, as reported by the Keene Sentinel, September 9th, the Commissioners could not even present figures validating the cost of drilling the test well, or how much they have spent researching the geothermal plan. However, we are to accept another $2.1 M poured into this boondoggle!
The citizens of Cheshire County have to stand firm and loudly show they are no longer going to accept this blind control of the taxpayers dollars to a few who, to this point, have little regard to the burden they are placing on the average homeowner in the county.
When it comes to the Cheshire County Big Dig (CCBD), enough is enough.

State study puts stop to district court move
Latchis building too expensive to renovate
CONCORD — The Latchis Theater building is an insufficient and unsuitable temporary home for Keene District Court, according to a state report released Thursday.
This week WKBK’s Dan Mitchell confronted Commissioner Roger Zerba on the new geothermal energy plan for the CCBD. According to Zerba, the entire delegation overwhelmingly supports the idea. Not so.
Today, August 26, 2008, the Keene Sentinel front-page headline reads, “County jail to go green?” I believe the correct statement should read Cheshire County Big Dig goes RED.
Reading the article the following figures jump out: 362K for additional 6 acres, 2.1M bond for energy project, 112K for the redesigning of the architectural plans to include the geothermal system, and an additional 142K for the delay in construction. Supposedly, the cost of delay is included in the overall price tag of the energy project. At some point, there is suppose to be a 2.9M profit, but when I add up these numbers, not including the interest on the bond, I do not come up with a 2.9M profit.
The citizens of Cheshire County have yet to feel the pain from the relocation of the jail, but not to fear, next year the citizens of Cheshire County will get the first installment on their tax bills. If the CCBD is not bad enough, we may even have the cost of a new school tossed into the mix.
Now to provide every one with something to look forward to, the Commissioners and County Administrator tell us we will see a profit on this new system in 29 years!
Just in case the good Lord has other plans for me, let me extend my gratitude to the brilliant minds that have brought this boondoggle to every homeowner in the county.
At the risk of causing further stress on already over-taxed citizens, I believe it will only be a matter of time before the Commissioners decide the nursing home must be relocated. After all, with the cost of gas, it is going to be prohibitive to transport prisoners on the work program to and from Westmoreland daily.
Can you imagine all this is the result of just several members of the delegation who could not understand that all that was needed at the present correctional facility was an addition on property already owned by the county. This is really a shame what they have done to the citizens of Cheshire County.
They just cannot stop spending our money! Yes, the latest and greatest idea for the CCBD is “geothermal energy”. First, the project comes up 6 acres short on the CCBD project; wonder how that happened with the amount that was paid for the site research? Now with the knowledge the acreage is on shallow bedrock … Someone comes up with a plan for geothermal energy. Now, let us pull this apart; they, the County, came up 6 acres short on the project to the cost of an additional 360K. Now they have the audacity to try to present a 2M energy project. We were promised the CCBD would not go over 37M, but according to my calculator 2M plus 360K looks like the commissioners have had no qualms about doing just that.
There is going to be a public meeting on this issue, time and place to be announced. Please make sure you come out and let the commissioners and the delegation know how you feel.
Election time is just around the corner; for the sake of the taxpayers of Cheshire County, I implore each voting citizen to consider replacing the delegates who continue to follow the lead of the county commissioners, the county administrator, and the HOC superintendent as they blindly go along with the leadership of the construction company, the development and architectural advisors.
Are you aware what former Senator Tom Eaton has done for Cheshire County? Let me list but a few of his accomplishments, and then ask yourself, what Senator Molly Kelly has done for Cheshire County:
1. Former Senator Eaton brought NH Technical School to Cheshire County.
2. He secured a 2.3M Science building to the Keene State College campus.
3. Senator Eaton secured funds that provided a permanent location for the State
Liquor Store. From the purchase of land and new building, the revenues increased from 3M to 10M!
4. Keene came very close to loosing the Aviation School of Excellence to the town
Of Gilford, but with Senator Eaton’s quick actions to alert Mayor Blastos and the city officials the school is another wonderful opportunity for the people of Cheshire County.
5. Former Senator Eaton passed a bill that made it possible for a division of C&S Whole Sale Foods to move into Keene.
6. With the help of Keene City officials the Senator was able to bring Janos
Technology into Keene.
7. It was former Senator Tom Eaton who killed legislature that kept Peerless
Insurance Co. and some 400 jobs in Keene.
Now I ask you, isn’t it time to send Tom Eaton back to the N.H. Senate where he can continue to protect the “New Hampshire Way” , while at the same time, watch out for
Cheshire County?
As the country struggles with the dilemma regarding long-term energy sources, our delegation has returned to New Hampshire for rest and recreation. Congressman Hodes and Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter turned their backs on the needs of the country and the desire of the people to lift the ban on off shore drilling. Shame on them for not staying in Washington doing what is right for the people and the country.
I cannot believe what I read, but according to Congressman Hodes, the so-called uproar regarding Congress closing without an energy bill is just a "Tempest in a Tea Pot!" That is not the way I feel when I pull up to the pump.
Speaker Pelosi was determined to close the session without a bill passed; regardless what the repercussions would be to the American citizens, getting Democrats elected, and anything that might be favorable to Republicans, in spite of the need of the country, her only goal is to win in 2008...
I think I would like to be on the side of not making her wish come true.
Is anyone keeping an eye on the “BIG DIG” project on Rt. 101? Yes, Cheshire County has its own “BIG DIG”. Can you imagine after all the county went through to force the new jail site and it ends up being on wet lands? How much did that cost Cheshire County taxpayers? Oh, yes, just recently, the Keene Sentinel reported the construction site came up 6 acres short of the amount of land needed; there went another three hundred and sixty thousand ($360,000). Boy, I hope everyone closely checks his or her tax bill to see what he or she is contributing to this construction project.
