My View
May 30, 2008

Paul Hodes held a Town Hall meeting on May 27th via the telephone. I received a call approximately around 7 p.m. and the person on the other end announced that I had been invited to participate. It was obvious the conversations had been going on for some time but I was told by an automated voice message if I wanted to ask a question just press 1 plus star key, etc. It took about one minute to realize that the calls were being well screened and the questions being permitted enabled Congressman Hodes to present a well-rehearsed reply.

The callers were against the war, against the Bush administration, against drilling anywhere in the country. They wanted to know why the government isn’t doing more to help supplement their solar energy installations, when will the government supplement the automobile industry to develop cars with better gas mileage, over and over, when will the government stop subsidizing BIG oil companies, and why is the government helping the farmers but not doing anything for Vegans!

The government, the government, I just don’t understand the mentality that wants the government to take over every aspect of their lives, and further more, the lack of understanding that government subsidies are coming from our pockets, not some mystical money tree in D.C.

I tried to ask the Congressman a question but the screener wanted to know my question, I gave a general description, that wasn’t enough, what was my question? When I told her she said that he had really covered that issue and there are many on hold, but she would try to get the call through. I told her not to bother because it was clear only calls that fall in line with the democrat mantra would go through.

It was useless to even bother debating the issue with the screener as I have attended Mr. Hodes’ Town Hall meetings in person, and also in that environment, he does not have the courage to take questions from the floor, but requires that the questions be thoroughly vetted so he will look like he knows what he is saying.

Sorry Congressman Hodes, that just isn’t the way of a leader and a representative of the people of District 2.
