Cindy McCain
Posted July 5th, 2008 by NHFactsI think that Cindy McCain is such an outstanding person that this information should be widely spread, instead of the degrading messages that are erroneous and widely circulated.
Cindy McCain
Bet you would have never guessed this one! No matter your
politics. The media will never tell of this, so pass it on.
There was an article in the Wall Street Journal on Cindy McCain, John's
wife. All I ever saw was this attractive woman standing beside
John. I was surprised how talented and involved with world problems
she is. This is a summary of the article.
She graduated from Southern Cal and was a special-needs
teacher.
America Needs 'Appropriate Change'
Posted July 4th, 2008 by NHFactsKeriann Hopkins writes that Fred Thompson believes: America Needs 'Appropriate Change,'
America doesn't need change so much as it needs to be heading in the right direction, according to former Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson.
Thompson, a former senator from Tennessee, gave delegates to the National Right to Life Convention a lecture on the historical, political, and philosophical underpinnings of true change.
Referring to Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) and his now ever-present mantra, "Change We Can Believe In," Thompson said the nation's pressing need is for "appropriate change."
HORN STATEMENT ON IRAQ BENCHMARK REPORT
Posted July 4th, 2008 by Jennifer HornAssociated Press stories indicate that Iraq has reached several new agreements seen as critical to easing sectarian tensions. Jennifer Horn, Republican candidate for Congress, issued the following statement:
"Recent reports indicating the Iraqi government has achieved "satisfactory" progress on 15 of 18 political benchmarks bring us one step closer to the time when a stable and self-governing Iraq is in charge of its own security. While the progress is slow and not perfect, this shows that we are in fact making progress in Iraq and that we are on the right course.
Can Barack Buy the Presidency?
Posted July 4th, 2008 by NH IndependentOn the money front, how do Sens. Obama and McCain stack up? No contest, it seems. Since the campaign began, Mr. Obama has raised a staggering $295-plus million, versus Mr. McCain's almost $122 million. But that's misleading.
Mr. Obama spent a lot to win the nomination. So how much cash did he and his rival have when the general election effectively began in June? As of May 31, Mr. Obama had $43.1 million on hand while Mr. McCain had $31.6 million – a significant but not overwhelming advantage.
Liberty as Statue and Symbol
Posted July 4th, 2008 by NHFactsBarrymore Laurence Scherer shares the rich allegorical meaning in Bartholdi's great sculpture.
Familiarity does have a way of breeding, if not contempt, then a kind of numb oblivion. Today, when the field of sculpture has been broadened to include a building wrapped in cloth and a shark's corpse afloat in formaldehyde, we take the Statue of Liberty for granted, too often glancing at it without actually seeing what it represents as both a monumental work of sculpture and an allegory of national and international significance.

The Two Obamas
By DAVID BROOKS
Published: June 20, 2008
God, Republicans are saps. They think that they’re running against some academic liberal who wouldn’t wear flag pins on his lapel, whose wife isn’t proud of America and who went to some liberationist church where the pastor damned his own country. They think they’re running against some naïve university-town dreamer, the second coming of Adlai Stevenson.

By Mark Finkelstein | June 30, 2008 - 09:01 ET
Andrea Mitchell depicts Wesley Clark's cracks about John McCain's heroism as a gaffe. Bloopers that will cost him any chance of being picked for the Obama veep slot. But surely the seasoned MSM hand knows better than to imagine that Clark was freelancing. Clark's were anything but impromptu remarks, made, say, late at night to a foreign reporter in a hotel cocktail lounge in some far-flung land. To the contrary, Clark took his shots in the brightest of limelights—those of a Sunday morning talk show—speaking with the venerable Bob Schieffer. Clark was explicitly there as an Obama campaign surrogate.

McCain and Obama Jump to Defend War Record
By DAVID WRIGHT
June 30, 2008
To this day, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., can't raise his arms above his shoulders because of injuries he suffered serving his country.
Republican nominee fires back at attacks on his Vietnam War record.Shot down on a combat mission in Vietnam, McCain was badly injured and tortured relentlessly for five and a half years in a POW camp. That experience shaped the core of his character. Had he not been through it, he might not be a candidate for president.

Unity Is Not Union
By Cal Thomas
In keeping with his "messiah" image, Barack Obama might have been more at home in Bethlehem, Pa., than in Unity, N.H., when he and his "former" nemesis, Hillary Clinton, opened their new act on the road to mixed reviews.
We are supposed to forget everything they said about each other during the primaries. They didn't really mean it; or did they? This is why so many people are cynical about politicians. You never know if they are telling you what you want to hear, or what they hope you'll swallow in spite of evidence to the contrary.
Keene City Budget
Posted June 28th, 2008 by Carl PanzaCity Budget
My hat is off the City Finance Committee for actually listening to the public and acting upon the public’s request to lower the city’s portion of the property tax from 4.8% to 3.9984%. In a real sense, watching both school and city government activities is rather new to me. I am one of those guilty citizens who rarely got involved until I retired early last year. I am learning a lot of lessons along the way.

Republicans agree on many issues, including dumping the incumbent
David P. Greisman
Sentinel Staff
The Republican candidates for New Hampshire’s 2nd District seat of the U.S. House of Representatives agree on numerous topics, including that one term is enough for the incumbent, Democrat Paul W. Hodes.
The race will pit Hodes, of Concord, against either Grant Bosse of Hillsboro, Bob Clegg of Hudson, Jennifer Horn of Nashua, Alfred L’Eplattenier of Rindge or Jim Steiner of Concord.

Dear John: We're sorry but this relationship just isn't working out, by The Valley News
Dear John: This isn't easy to say, especially after 3½ years. We had high hopes - we really did - that our relationship would grow stronger with the passage of time. And for a while there, back in November 2006, when the Democrats rose to power in the Legislature, we felt optimistic about our future together. But quite frankly, Governor Lynch, we feel a bit betrayed.
You said you'd work to make real progress on the issues important to New Hampshire families - improving education and all sorts of other good things. But we're beginning to think you have a problem with commitment, even ones you made.
